If you have no time to type, send a knooke 📲

A knooke is a short, ready made signal that reaches the phones of your family or your team without a word. It is not a chat, it needs no text, one tap is enough.

No need to shout through the whole house from the kitchen.

  • Dinner is ready. No need to shout through the whole house from the kitchen.
  • On my way. You do not type while driving, but one tap fits in at a red light.
  • I am home. Your hands are full of shopping bags, so you cannot make a call. One tap is enough.
  • No training. The coach tells everyone with one tap, no need to phone every parent.

What is a knooke?

Hi, I'm Knoo.

  • Not another chat

No thread, no read receipts. One signal that makes a sound.

  • One tap

You send a ready made signal, or type a short one on the spot.

  • Free for members

You pay the yearly fee per group, the app is free for everyone else.

Chats get muted. Knookee gets heard.

The most important messages are usually the shortest ones, and those are the easiest to miss.

  • It gets lost in the group

"I am outside" lands somewhere between forty memes and a birthday poll. Nobody sees it.

  • Focus mutes it

Work mode, sleep mode, game mode. The phone is great at keeping everything out, and that is exactly the problem.

  • No conversation needed

"Dinner is ready" needs no thread and no read receipt. It only needs a signal that makes a sound.

The story

How Knookee was born

A garden, a not so clean hand and an idea.

Person 1 was working in the garden when something was suddenly needed. There were two options, writing to the family chat or calling someone. But the hands were not exactly clean, so neither was easy.

That is when the idea came. There should be something that lets you tell the others with a single tap, and they surely hear it. Not another chat, not a call, just a signal that makes a sound.

That became Knookee. One knooke, and your people are already opening the door.

How it works

You set it up on the web. They just download it.

  1. Sign up on the web

Create your account and pay the yearly fee. You find the price in the pricing section.

  2. Create the group

Give it a name and pick a co-admin. They manage the group with the same rights as you.

  3. Invite the members

Enter their nickname, their full name and their e-mail address. Use an address the member reads regularly, the sign in code goes there.

  4. They just download it

The invitation e-mail has the App Store and Google Play links. The app is free, signing in works with a code from an e-mail, no password, then come the required settings, and you are done.

iPhone and Android

It reaches everyone's phone, whichever one it is.

Mum has an iPhone, the kids have Android, the coach has whatever. The signal arrives the same way and sounds the same way on every phone. You never have to wonder who has which phone.

  • The same signal

Text, pin, voice note and photo on both systems, including the sound alert.

  • Your own map

The pin opens in the map app of each person's phone.

  • Many devices, one account

Phone, tablet, a newer phone, the signal sounds on every device where you are signed in. The yearly fee belongs to the group, not to the device.

Sending

This is how a signal goes out.

  • Many groups, one app

If you belong to more than one group, you choose which one a signal is for before you send it. The notification you receive always shows which group it came from.

  • Template or quick message

You can send a ready made signal with one tap, or write a short one on the spot.

  • Everyone by default

"Everyone" is selected. If you tap it, the members of the group appear, and you choose with a tick who gets it.

  • Sound alert, only if you want it1

It is off by default. If you switch it on, the phones of the recipients sound loudly, and the signal gets through Focus as well.

  • Pin, voice note, photo

The attachment downloads to the phone and opens straight from the notification. The pin opens the map with one tap.

A widget on the home screen

Your favourite templates are one tap away without opening the app. The quick guide shows how to set it up.

1 On iPhone, signals with a sound alert are time sensitive and break through Focus, but iOS does not let any app override the silent switch. On Android they also sound in Do Not Disturb mode if you allow it.

Quick guide

Got an invitation? Here is how to set it up.

Download the app, the link is also in the invitation e-mail. Sign in with the account the invitation was sent to, then go through these settings.

  1. Allow notifications

On the first start tap "Allow". If you skipped it, open Settings, Knookee, Notifications, and switch on notifications, sounds and badges.

  2. Time sensitive notifications

In the same place keep the "Time Sensitive Notifications" switch on. That is what lets signals with a sound alert through Focus.

  3. Focus modes

Open Settings, Focus, pick a mode such as Sleep, then add Knookee under Apps. Repeat this for every Focus mode you use.

  4. Ring mode

On a muted phone the signal appears and vibrates, but it does not make a sound. If hearing it matters, keep the phone in ring mode.

  5. Add the widget

Touch and hold the home screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, Knookee. Choose which templates go on it.

  1. Allow notifications

On the first start allow notifications. If you skipped it, open Settings, Apps, Knookee, Notifications, and switch everything on.

  2. The "Sound alert" category

In the same place open the "Sound alert" category. Make sure sound and pop-up notifications are on, and switch on "Override Do Not Disturb".

  3. Do Not Disturb access

The app asks for it on the first start. If you did not allow it, open Settings, Notifications, Do Not Disturb, Apps, and add Knookee.

  4. Battery optimisation

Open Settings, Apps, Knookee, Battery, and choose Unrestricted. On Samsung remove it from "Sleeping apps", on Xiaomi allow autostart.

  5. Add the widget

Touch and hold the home screen, choose Widgets, Knookee, and drag it where you want it.

The names of the menus can differ a little between phone makers.

Questions and answers

Do the members have to pay?

No. The person who creates the group pays the yearly fee on the web, and the app is free for the members.

Why do I have to subscribe on the web?

You manage the group, the members and the subscription on the web. The app is for sending and receiving signals, so it is free for everyone.

Which e-mail address should I invite the members with?

One the member reads regularly. The app sends the sign in code there and recognises the member by the address.

On iPhone it offers to hide my e-mail. What should I choose?

Choose "Share My Email", otherwise the app cannot find your invitation.

Can I reply to a signal?

No, and that is on purpose. Knookee is not a chat, a signal goes out and makes a sound. You can talk in your usual messaging app.

Does it sound when the phone is muted?

On Android yes, if you allowed overriding Do Not Disturb. On iPhone a signal with a sound alert gets through Focus, but Apple does not let any app override the silent switch.

What if the creator loses their phone?

No problem. The group lives on the web, not on the phone, and the co-admin manages it with the same rights.

Does it work if the group has both iPhones and Android phones?

Yes. Knookee works the same way on both systems, and iPhones and Android phones can be mixed in any ratio within a group. Everyone gets the same signal, including attachments and the sound alert.

Can I use it on more than one device?

Yes. You can sign in with one account on any number of devices, for example on a phone and a tablet, on iPhone and Android mixed. The signal shows up on every device where you are signed in and allowed notifications. You can see and remove your devices in your web profile.

Can I be a member of more than one group?

Yes. With one app you can use more than one group, for example your family and your child's soccer team. The subscription is always paid by the creator of that group, it is free for you.

How many members can a group have?

At most 5 people, including the two admins.

Can I delete my account and my data?

Yes. You can delete your account in your web profile and in the app, and you can ask for an export of your data.
